Komodo dragon

Physical characteristics:

Komodo dragons are known for their size. They are at least 10 feet (3 meters) and weigh 150 to 200 pounds. Komodo dragons have big, hard and rough scales which is super tough. They can be yellow, green, brown and gray. Komodo dragons have a long tail to attack other Komodo dragons for territory or for food.

Habitat:

Komodo dragons live in the green forests of Komodo island where there is lots of vegetation and lots of vegetation means lots of food and water for the Komodo dragons. They have adapted to the entire ecosystem sense the first Komodo dragon. Their habitat is being cut down and that’s why we have to save it.

Diet:

Komodo dragons are carnivores which mean it only eats meat. Komodo dragons eat anything that they want and find. They have a strong jaw. It is so strong that most of the times it can not ever let go of its prey. It will share half of its food if it wants to but sometimes they fight for it and one usually backs down so it does not get hurt.

Life cycle:

Baby Komodo dragons weigh 100 grams and are 16 inches long. The eggs hatch on the ground but the babies climb up the trees for safety. They can have a lifespan of 25 to 35 years in custody but in the wild they can live up to 30 years.

Evolution:

I believe that Komodo dragons used to be a type of fish that circled Komodo island. That evolved into a salamander that has good camouflage. Then it evolved into are smaller lizard that couldn’t survive the harsh habitat so it turned into the world’s biggest lizard.

  2. Like snakes komodo dragons smell with their fork shaped tongue.
  3. They have a very venomous bite which will kill its prey in a week.
  4. It is known to be the largest lizard in the world.
